Robert Riess

Work History:

1998 – Present

Co-owner of Riess Construction – October 1, 1998 my brothers Mike, Pat and I started Riess construction, specializing in erecting pre-engineered steel buildings and commercial wood framing. My responsibilities within the company are supervising the steel erecting jobs and their crews. These jobs range from 2,000 sq ft to 80,000 sq ft. The first job we did was a deck in Bedford, NH and my two brothers and I worked on it together. One by one we added employees and equipment to handle the demand of our growing business. As the company began to grow so did our fleet. It became evident that I would handle our fleet of vehicles and equipment. In 2000 Riess Construction purchased our first tractor trailer in order for me to transport our own equipment to our job sites around the state.  By the company’s tenth Anniversary we had expanded to over 20 employees, 30 vehicles and various pieces of equipment including a 40-ton crane. On any given day, I may be operating the crane, delivering a piece of equipment, overseeing the steel crews, meeting with clients or discussing schedules. I continually coordinate the daily field activity’s making sure the job sites have the right manpower and equipment to keep the jobs safe and running on schedule.

1987 – 1988

In April of 1987 Brian Young of Construx hired me on part-time bases to rake leaves and do odd jobs. After graduating in June of that year, I began as a full-time employee at Construx. Within six months I was promoted to job foreman, given a company vehicle, and put in charge of running a crew of 3-4 men on a daily basis. By 1989 the number of employees and crews grew at Construx. I was promoted to head foreman to run the bigger erecting jobs. These jobs ranged from 10,000 square feet to 250,000 square feet and from 5 to as many as 30 men.  As Pat was increasingly getting more involved with estimating and project management, I was more and more relied on to coordinate field activities. With the start of the wood division, I was promoted to field coordinator. These duties included all vehicle and equipment purchases, repair work, all scheduled maintenance, as well as scheduling all equipment moves or moving the equipment myself with the company’s tractor trailer. I also was still in charge of all daily field operations of the erecting crews and would conduct daily site visits to address safety, quality, or employee issues. At last check, I had supervised the erection of over three-million square feet of metal buildings.
